Jesus Christ in Islam  [Abdul Fatir]

"Islam is the only non-christian faith which makes it an article of faith for its followers to believe in Jesus (peace be upon him) .No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (peace be upon him). We believe that He was One of the mightiest messengers of God , he was the 'Messiah' translated Christ , that he was born miraculously without any male intervention , that he gave life to the dead with God's permission and he healed those born blind and the lepers with God's permission."

Qur'an refers to Jesus as Esa in Arabic which is same as his name Esau in Hebrew , classicalYeheshua which the christians have latinised as Jesus however Jesus (peace be upon him) never heard the word Jesus in his lifetime.One may wonder to know that Jesus (peace be upon him) is mentioned 25 times by name in Qur'an while Prophet Muhammad is mentioned only 5 times .

Some titles given to Jesus (peace be upon him) in Qur'an are :

§  Ibn Maryam - The son of Mary - Surah Maidah (5:75)

§  Maseeh or Messiah (Hebrew) - Annointed One - Suarh Nisa (4:171)

§  Abdullah - Servant of Allah (God) - Surah Maryam (19:30)

§  Rasullullah - Messenger of Allah (God) - Surah Maidah (5:75)

§  Kalimatullah - A word from Allah (God) - Surah Ale-Imran (3:45)

§  Ruhallah - A spirit from Allah (God) - Suarh Nisa (4:171)

§  Aayah - A sign from Allah (God)

Even The Qur'an has a whole Chapter named 'Maryam' (Mary) in respect of The Mother of Jesus . No other chapter in Qur'an has been named on a woman . This respect given to Mary is not even found in the Christian Bible.

The Qur'an refers to Jews and  Christians ( and people with other scriptues ) as 'Ahle-Kita'b' meaning 'The People of the Book (Scripture)' and addresses them many times .

STATUS OF MARY IN QUR'AN :

 And [mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.

    ~Surah Ale-Imran (3:42)

BIRTH OF JESUS IN QUR'AN :

[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah ].

He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous."

She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah ; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.

And He will teach him writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel

And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah . And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah . And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.

And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me.

Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path."

REFUTATION BY JESUS TO PEOPLE'S ALLEGATION AGAINST HER MOTHER IN HIS CHILDHOOD :

Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.

O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."

So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?"

[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah . He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.

And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and Charity as long as I remain alive

And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.

And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive."

   ~Surah Maryam (19:27-33)

BELIEF IN JESUS :

They say, "Be Jews or Christians [so] you will be guided." Say, "Rather, [we follow] the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth, and he was not of the polytheists."

Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

     ~Surah Al-Baqrah (2:135-136)

Narrated 'Ubada:

The Prophet said, "If anyone testifies that None has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone Who has no partners, and that Muhammad is His Servant and His Apostle, and that Jesus is Allah's Servant and His Apostle and His Word which He bestowed on Mary and a Spirit created by Him, and that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, Allah will admit him into Paradise with the deeds which he had done even if those deeds were few." (Junada, the sub-narrator said, " 'Ubada added, 'Such a person can enter Paradise through any of its eight gates he likes.")

STATUS OF JESUS' DISCIPLES :

[Mention] when Allah said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allah alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ.

      ~Surah Ale-Imran (3:55)

MIRACLES OF JESUS :

[The Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and [remember] when I taught you writing and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay [what was] like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from [killing] you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but obvious magic."

        ~Surah Maidah (5:110)

THE REVELATION TO JESUS (GOSPEL , NOT GOSPELS) :

And We did certainly give Moses the Torah and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear proofs and supported him with the Pure Spirit. But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel], with what your souls did not desire, you were arrogant? And a party [of messengers] you denied and another party you killed.

   ~Surah Baqarah (2:87)

......and We gave him the Gospel, in which was guidance and light and confirming that which preceded it of the Torah as guidance and instruction for the righteous.

    ~Surah Maidah (5:46)

JESUS WILL RETURN BEFORE THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT :

And indeed, Jesus will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me. This is a straight path.

     ~Surah Zukhruf (43:61)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts).

JESUS WAS A MESSENGER OF ALLAH (GOD) NOT THE BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD :

They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!"

Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!

The heavens almost rupture therefrom and the earth splits open and the mountains collapse in devastation

That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious.

For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son.

     ~ Surah Maryam (19:88-92)

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

      ~Surah Ale-Imran (3:59)

JESUS NOT GOD , GOD IS ONE NOT TRINITY :

They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah , my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.

  ~Surah Maidah (5:72)

O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

   ~Surah Nisa (4:171)

The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.

    ~Surah Maidah (5:75)

JESUS WAS NOT CRUCIFIED :

The Jews abused Jesus and boasted that they killed him but The Qur'an comes to tell the truth and rescue Jesus from that allegation , Even christians today believe that Jesus dies a death of accursed but Qur'an says :

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-

Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

   ~Surah Nisa (4:157-158)

TRUTH ABOUT HIM WILL BE REALISED WHEN PEOPLE DIE BUT THEN IT WOULD BE LATE AND JESUS WILL BEAR WITNESS AGAINST THEM WHO BELIEVED THAT HE WAS CRUCIFIED :

And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.

   ~Surah Nisa (4:159)

MUHAMMAD (pbuh) : THE LAST & ONLY PROPHET AFTER JESUS :

  

Abu Huraira reported many ahadith from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and one is that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: I am most close to Jesus, son of Mary, among the whole of mankind in this worldly life and the next life. They said: Allah's Messenger how is it? Thereupon he said: Prophets are brothers in faith, having different mothers. Their religion is, however, one and there is no Apostle between us (between I and Jesus Christ).

   ~Muslim :: Book 30 : Hadith 5836

JESUS AND HIS DISCIPLES WERE MUSLIM :

ISLAM is not a new religion , it is the religion preached by all Prophets and we believe in all Prophets ,

Qur'an says :

And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" You are only a warner, and for every people is a guide.

     ~Surah Ra'd (13:7)

Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

      ~Surah Baqarah (2:136)

Islam comes from the root arabic word 'Salam' which means 'Peace' , it also comes from the arabic word 'slim' meaning 'To Submit You will to God'.

Muslim means 'A person who submits his will to One God (Allah in arabic)'.

IF CHRISTIAN MEANS 'A FOLLOWER OF JESUS' THEN 'I AM A TRUE CHRISTIAN' :

§  I worship the One True God (NOT TRINITY) who created the universe , who created Jesus , who was worshipped by Jesus. 

"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

    ~  Mark (12:29)

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

    ~ Deuteronomy 6:4

§  Jesus was a MUSLIM (Meaning : One who seeks the will of God and Submits to will of God) , So am I ; Jesus did miracles by permission of God and I believe that.

By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to my will but of  him who sent me.

     ~John (5:30)

§  I believe in the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as was prophecised by Jesus (pbuh) .

    ~ John (16:7,12-14) [ Also in John (1:21) , Deuteronomy (18:18) , Isaiah (29:12) , Song of Songs (5:16) etc. )

§  I pray as Jesus (pbuh) .

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

  ~Matthew (26:39)

§  I take ablution before prayer .

  ~ Exodus (40:30)

§  I greet people by saying "Peace be on you" like Jesus .

A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"

    ~John (20:26)

§  Jesus fasted , i too do.

After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

     ~ Matthew (4:2)

§  Jesus was circumcised as me and my brothers .

Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived

       ~ Luke (2:21)

§  I never drink alcohol , never give or take interest , never eat  pork as done by Jesus .

JESUS WAS A MUSLIM , SO AM I .
